The Blender Format (4-7pm):
4pm - 5pm: Keynote Presentation and Q+A: Russell West, NVPS Common Core Math Instructional Specialist
Effectively teaching the Common Core Math standards is likely to require a shift in pedagogical approach for many teachers. Russell has the perspective of having implemented Common Core aligned practices in his own classroom and worked this year with a cadre of NVPS teachers in a promising pilot of common-core aligned resources and pedagogical methods developed by the Shell Centre, whose core shift is in the idea of creating structured, productive struggle for the student. Russell's keynote will lead participants through a concrete exhibition of these resources and practices, and culminate with an examination of what it would mean to effectively incorporate technology into these activities and assessments.
5pm - 6pm: Self-Selected, Participant-Led Breakout Sessions
6pm - 7pm: Social Time!
